Does Product Placement ruin my Movie Experience?

What is Product Placement?

Putting well known brands of items in a movie scene without having to call it out.  This is designed to quietly catch a viewers attention without having to call the product out by name.   It is also much cheaper for a company to pay for their product to be placed in a movie than it is to create and pay for a pre-movie advertisement that most people talk through.

The average cost of product placement is $22,000 compared to over $300,000 to pay for an advertisement.

I watched Bohemian Rhapsody over the weekend.  Throughout the movies the beer can logos were blurred out, however at the end of the movie a Pepsi cup was sitting on the piano while Freddy Mercury was playing it.

OK, this did not make me want to rush out of the theater and buy a six pack of Pepsi, it did stick with me.  It also did not take away from the movie.

Product placement dates back as early as 1927 when the Hershey's chocolate bar was displayed in the movie Wings

46 Product Placement in Movies

I can definitely see where this benefits products at lower cost to the companies.  I think I had rather see the product, than when they blur things out to keep viewers from seeing the products.  Now those are annoying.

Product Placement is a good tool to use anywhere.
