A quick look at Twitter

Twitter was introduced to the world in 2006.  It was a cool new way of getting information out quickly in 140 characters or less.  As Twitter has matured over the years and technology has improved, they have increased their character limit to 280 characters per tweet.

An October, 2018 reports show that there are 326 million active twitter account per month.  There are approximately 500 million tweets per day.

The U.S. is not one of the top 3 countries that utilize twitter, however, over the past 2 years, President Trump has given Twitter quite a boost with his relentless tweets during all hours of the day.

I surveyed 3 non-college adults and 3 college students about their user of twitter.  It definitely got some interesting results. Lets start off with the non-college adults:

Adult #1:  They did not even know what twitter was.  However, this corresponds with the fact that they also do not have text enabled on their phone.  The only social media they use is Facebook to keep up with family.

Adult #2:  They have a twitter account, but really only use it to follow certain people.  They primarily use it to tweet for The Voice Instant Save

Adult #3:  They use it for their business.  They use it to retweet positive tweets about their business and tweet about certain aspects of their business.   The biggest thing they use it for was to see if there were any "bad press" tweets.  This allows them to jump on them quickly and see if they can get it resolved.

I interviewed three college age students.  All three of them had a twitter account, but they rarely used them.  They created an account when they thought it would be cool, but they find that they mostly use Snapchat.
